The American Dream

A former homeless single mom who once slept in her car with her nine years old daughter will graduate from UCLA on Saturday, June 16, 2007, at 4:00 PM. The 37 years old will walk the commencement stage in the Wilson Plaza courtyard holding two published children’s books in her left hand and accepting in her right hand a bachelor’s degree from the Director of the Education Minor, Dr. Tyrone Howard. What an honor, Dr. Howard was the academic advisor and professor who mentored Horowitz towards completing her degree in Education and research projects, which included an honor’s thesis on the No Child Left Behind Plan. Horatio Alger story? No. Nevertheless, UCLA graduate, author, and publisher, Jeanine Horowitz is living proof that the American Dream is still obtainable if pursued with the powers of hardwork, courage, determination, and community.
Immediately after graduation, the American Dream will come alive for Horowitz. As publisher of Ocean Front Book Publishing, Inc., she will embark on a nationwide book tour commencing Monday, July 2, 2007. Once again, the mother and daughter will spend extensive time in their car traveling to promote literary with live mascot entertainment and conduct book signings at bookstores, public libraries, and universities in over 25 states.
Along the way, Ms. Horowitz will meet for the first time the author-professionals who entrusted her to turn their novelty manuscripts into hardcover books in genres of non-fiction, fiction, young adult chapter books, novels and children’s literature. Ocean Front Book Publishing features authors who are all professionals not in writing, but rather in many fields such as: Medicine, Dentistry, Law, Accounting, Entertainment, and Education.
For years, Ms. Horowitz supported herself and her daughter with temp jobs. However, a downturn in the economy cost them their home, and forced them to sleep in their car without food. This was when she learned firsthand the power of community. A pastor at whose Los Angeles church she had preached helped them and immediately, Ms. Horowitz began fighting her way out of poverty. With the cooperation of local businesses in affluent West Los Angeles, California, as well as school districts and a fire department, Horowitz launched her first book-signing in 2001, before returning to UCLA to finish her bachelor degrees in Education and Religion.
Horowitz has written several books, including Children’s literature, Toady Toad’s Move, My First Playing Lesson and Golfing with Grandma; a Young Adult fiction. The Latchkey Kid; and a novel and religious autobiography, Life: Grab It By the Buttocks. The latter will share the intimate details about what it was like to live out of a car watching her hungry daughter, as well as the inspirational mind set that enables a person to soar.
Through her personal triumph over adversity, Jeanine Horowitz has established a unique new voice in publishing. For additional information, to locate her state to state itinerary or to purchased hardcover books click on calendar and browse www.oceanfrontbooks.com
